Our Mission

The South Main Association’s mission is to provide a safe and vibrant neighborhood, strengthen the community's voice, inspire growth and opportunities for its businesses, and give residents and merchants an outlet to express their views, all while preserving the district’s historic value.

  • The Board Vice President shares many of the leadership and procedural duties with the President, including assuming the leadership role when the president is unable to do so. The Vice President’s responsibilities include maintaining order during meetings, ensuring a smooth business flow, and serving as an informed source about association rules and bylaws.

    • Serves as an alternate to the President

    • Assists with planning community and association meetings

    • Helps maintain accurate records of board communications, financial statements, etc

    • Supports the President with delegating officer and director responsibilities

    • Responds to mail and inquiries

    • Oversees Communications responsibilities

    • Attends other meetings and events as needed

    • Sets standards for customer service to members of the association

    Guidelines: South Main's Vice President must have a residence or business address within association boundaries. The Vice President is elected for a term of three years, as he or she subsequently will serve as president and immediate past president.

  • The President leads the Board and oversees and handles many of its procedural duties. He or she is the authority on all association rules and documents and appoints committees if dictated by the bylaws.

    • Leads community and association meetings

    • Handles the responsibility of calling the meeting to order, announcing the agenda, ensuring adherence, maintaining attendee order and decorum, proposing questions, and calling for votes

    • Prepares meeting agenda with the VP and Treasurer in advance of meetings

    • Works with Treasurer to prepare annual budgets and approve any expenditures

    • Represents the united voice of the board to the district, media, and community

    • Ensures the board’s commitment to the district’s mission, vision, values, and goals through review, understanding, and when necessary, refinement or revision

    • Delegates and supervises officer and director responsibilities

    • Facilitates board members’ issues, concerns, etc

    • Manages the process of filling a vacancy on the board, if necessary, according to policy

    • Attends meetings or events that need board representation when no other board member can be present
